Car Insurance News – IN10 Convictions Increase Due to Crackdown June 25, 2008

Police forces across the country have been spot checking young drivers to make sure that they have the correct paperwork and documentation.  Its a common misconception that if you are insured on a comprehensive policy you are allowed to drive other cars using third party only insurance.  This benefit is only available from a few insurers and you may have to ask your broker to set this up when you purchase your policy.

If you are driving without the correct insurance then its possible the police can give you an IN10 endorsement – Using a vehicle uninsured against third party risks.   If you have any friends in the car with you then in theory, they could all receive an IN12 conviction – Aiding, abetting, counselling or procuring using a vehicle uninsured against third party risks.

IN10 and IN12 driving convictions are very serious and carry a 6 to 8 point penalty on your licence.  Make sure you read your policy carefully if you need to drive any of your friends cars or you could end up with insurance woes.
