This list is provided so that you are more informed about what insurers class as a vehicle modification.
Please note, this is not an officially endoresed list or a complete list of every mod. A modification is defined by
insurers as anything you add to your vehicle after it has been built or to alter the standard manufacturer specification.

Alloy wheels with locking nuts

Alloy wheels without locking nuts

Air filter

Bucket seats

Racing seatbelts

Enhanced carburetor

Performance Exhaust

Body Kit

Spoiler

Increased engine capacity

Improved brake system

In some cases, re-sprays, racing or “go faster” stripes and even stickers indicating brand-name stereos are classed as mods by certain insurers. If in doubt, its always best to ask your broker or insurer.

If you are unfortunate enough to have an accident and go on to make a claim, you may lose your no claims discount
(NCD). Losing your no claims discount is dependent on who is deemed to be at fault.

If you were at fault, you will almost certainly lose part or all of your NCD, as your insurer will have to pay for
any damages to third parties. If the third party was at fault and you are able to claim damages from their
insurer, your NCD should remain unaffected.

Don’t worry, even if you have 0 years No Claims Bonus, Quotezone price comparison can still get the best deals for you!

Remembering to declare all accidents you have been involved in is vital when purchasing any car insurance policy as insurers require full disclosure, even if the accident was not your fault. You may not know that you are also required to state any accidents where you did not make a claim on your policy.

Most insurance companies and brokers will ask whether or not your NCD was affected by your accident and this will have
an effect on your quote.

Once you have earned 4 years NCD, you have the option to protect your bonus. This is a chargeable amount on top of your insurance premium. You can carry on using this option each year, until you have reached the maximum of 9 years NCD. Drivers with maximum no claims can get substantial discount on their car insurance policy. This is why no claims discount is often referred to as no claims bonus as you get a bonus discount for being a careful driver.

Whilst most insurers and brokers have the same limits for NCD and protected policies, some insurers have a higher limit on the maximum NCD years. A few companies extend the no claims discount scheme to 15 years.

The same is true of the protected no claims discount package. Some providers will only offer protection after the policy holder completes 5 or 6 full years NCD.

Remeber, use Quotezone to find the best deal for any amount of No Claims Bonus.

The following article is a summary of the facts around convictions, endorsements and penalty points. The information presented here is correct as of 02-Nov-2007 sourced from DVLA UK organisation.

UK driving endorsements each have a points value ranging from one to eleven based on the seriousness of the endorsement. The endorsement must stay on your driving license for a pre-determined amount of time ranging from four to eleven years, again based on the offence.

The serious offence list contains drink driving and drug driving offences (codes: DR10, DR20, DR30 and DR80) and causing death by careless driving (codes: CD40, CD50, CD60 and CD70).
Any of these endorsements stay on your driving license for 11 years from the date of the conviction.

Convictions for dangerous/reckless driving or any driving disqualifications stay on your driving license for 4 years from the date of the conviction.
Codes for these convictions are DD40, DD60 and DD80.

All other convictions and endorsements have an expiry period of 4 years from the date of the offence. For example, you get a SP30 speeding endorsement on 21st April 2004. This stays on your driving license until 21st April 2008.

If you collect twelve or more penalty points on your license in any 3 year period, you will be banned from driving under the “totting up” system. This will show as a TT99 endorsement on your driving license. Under the New Drivers Act, if you receive 6 or more points in your first two years of driving, your license is automatically revoked.

If you need quotes for any type of conviction, try Quotezone the insurance price comparison site.

Mileage – if you travel less than 3000 miles by bike each year then you could be entitled to a further 10% off your premium. Storing your bike in a locked garage may reduce your premium by an additional 5%

Security – If your bike has a Thatcham rated security system then this could knock 5 to 10% off your premium. If you don’t have any security then its worth the cost of adding an alarm or immobiliser as you gain two benefits – Cheaper bike insurance and Peace of mind from knowing your bike is secured.

When driving alone or at night, always lock your doors

Girls, never leave your handbag on the passenger seat. Oppotunistic theives could try and grab it at the traffic lights

Always carry your mobile phone with you, you never know when you might need it!

Always let people know where you’re going and when you expect to get there. Sensible journey planning always makes good sense no matter how you are travelling

Never pick up hitch hikers, you never know what you’re going to get…

Always park in well lit car parks

Never leave your car unlocked and running when you’re away from it. If someone steals it with the keys in the ignition its your fault and you insurance will be invalid

Get an alarm or immobiliser if you don’t already have one. Many car insurance schemes offer discounts for extra vehicle security

Always hide your car keys in your house and away from the door. Thieves are stealing car keys to avoid bothering
with new car security systems

Always be aware of what’s going on around you

Following these simple tips, you can keep yourself and others safe while you are travelling.

Its the season to be jolly but get too merry and it could cost you your licence...

Its the season to be jolly but get too merry and it could cost you your licence…

Every Christmas we hear that the Police are having a crackdown on drink drivers and 2007 is no exception. Police teams are out in force randomly testing drivers late in the evening and now, more than ever, early in the morning. There have even been reports of people being charged with drink drive offences from breath test after a full day of work as they are still over the limit from the night before.

The safest way to avoid a DR10 conviction is to not drink to excess at all over the Christmas period. Not much fun but its a safe stragey to ensure you stay legal. We all like a good time during the festive period and there are do it yourself breathaliser kits available from a number of UK outlets. You can use these kits to check your blood/alcohol level to help you make the decision whether to use the car or find other means of transporation. Using a breathaliser kit is definitely worth the money if it helps you keep your licence.

Hopefully you’ll have a great time over Christmas and not pick up any DR endorsements or convictions on your license. If you are unlucky, Quotezone is able to offer cheap insurance on a range of drink drive offences – goto Quotezone for awesome insurance prices.
